The Oldupai Gorge is where Louis and Mary Leakey started excavations in 1931 that yielded fossilised remains of
tools from 2m year old communities of pre-human "hominids". Possibly the most significant archeological site in the world.
The four "layers" in the gorge preserve tools and animal and human fossils from communities millions of years apart in one spot.
