After a frustrating few days waiting for weather to clear we got up early and headed for the Lord Lonsdale before sunrise. Not quite sure how long it would take to walk, and only half certain which road would take us there, we hailed a cab and with a clever combination of Google translate and Google maps we managed to direct the taxi driver to a spot we’d passed on the bus a few days earlier. Punta Arenas has many treasures for lovers of altered landscape, and this is one of the best. At low tide you can step into the gutted hull and shoot the skeletal stern of the boat.
